As probably every city in the world, Barcelona (and in general Catalunya) has its own customs and traditions, these things that make a city or a region unique. Here are few things that I think tourists visiting Barcelona should know.
SANT JORDI
April 23rd is the feast of Sant Jordi (Diada de Sant Jordi), the patron Saint of Catalonia.
A castell (castle) consists of a human tower with can have up to ten levels high. These castells (castles) are built during town festivals. At these festivals, different colles castelleres (teams) compete to build the most impressive castell.
Barcelona is a bilingual city with both Catalan and Spanish. Catalan is the local language and Catalan people are very proud of it.
Catalan Cuisine is based on fresh fruit and vegetables, meats and fish of great quality, and last but not least olive oil. One of the secrets of Catalan Cuisine is that food is cooked in olive oil giving food a very special taste.
