A tapa is a small portion of food that you get when ordering a drink, normally beer or wine. Depending on the bar, it can vary from peanuts to Spanish omelet or even a small portion of paella.
As is said in Spanish, Tapas “es todo un mundo” (Tapas is a world) which means that it represents an endless variety of foods, from croquetes, patatas bravas, Spanish jamon, mussels, catalan sausages, montaditos (bread served full of food) Spanish omelette … to very well elaborated dishes such as stir fried filet of beef, salmon marinated, paella or octopus in the Galician way.
In some parts of Spain such as Granada or Leon, the tapa is free. Unfortunately, this is not the case of Barcelona where you have to pay for them. However, they are still worth it.

One of the best tapas bar in Barcelona.
It is not located in the city center, therefore you will not find many tourists there. Large amount of tapas, really friendly and fun staff and reasonable prices are the main characteristics.
Tip: La Esquinica is a very indicated place for dinners of groups of people, however reservations are not accepted and it usually gets packed after 9pm so expect a long queue, so just try getting there before 9pm.

Probably the best patatas bravas (spicy fried potatotes) in Barcelona. The place looks just normal from the outside however their patatas bravas are simply excellent. Prices are also very reasonable. This is a perfect place for a snack before lunch.
Tip: In fact, Bar Tomás are 2 bars, so if the main one is closed, around the corner is a bar called Ivorra 10 (Ivorra street) which is driven by the same group.

Typical Spanish restaurant with typical Spanish decoration. Wide range of tapas. Special prices for groups of people which includes drinks, wide range of tapas, desserts for around 20€ each. Tip, for these group prices food is unlimited. Located in the city center, is a very well known and touristic place.

Nice and modern restaurants where food is served and well prepared and tapas are delicious. A bit more expensive than the others mentioned, is a nice place for small groups.
