Lleida-Alguaire Airport

From now on, there is a new way of flying to Catalonia. Lleida has recently inaugurated its own airport called Lleida-Alguaire Airport. Lleida thus finally will be able to offer its citizens the option to fly from and to Lleida without having to go to Barcelona (Barcelona airport) , Tarragona (Reus airport) or Girona (Girona Airport).

Lleida-Alguaire airport was inaugurated the 17th of January with a symbolic flight between Barcelona and Lleida, however, it will not be until the 5th of Febrary when it will officially begin operations. Vueling and Ryanair will be the airlines operating from Lleida-Alguaire airport and first flights will be:

  • Paris – Orly (Vueling)
  • Palma de Mallorca (Vueling)
  • Milano – Bergamo (Ryanair)
  • Frankfurt – Hahn (Ryanair)

For more details regarding Lleida-Alguaire airport click here. Unfortunately, this website is just in Catalan this airport is not yet in operation so I would expect this website into Spanish and English immediately.

It is true that Lleida is quite far away from Barcelona (about 150km) however it gives people the choice of flying to Lleida, which should be quite cheap as Lleida-Alguaire airport is trying to promote itself, spend few days in this beautiful area and then drive or take the train to Barcelona.

Things to do during winter in Barcelona

Low temperatures, thick clothes, long nights, Christmas and then back to work … it is winter time.

Being a Mediterranean city, winter does not hit as strong as in others cities in Europe. Temperatures may range between 0 and 10º C and the snow never usually appear. However, we are so used to nice weather that when cold times arrive seems like there is not much to do a part of remain warm at home… we can suggest some nice things to do during winter in Barcelona.

Go skiing

Andorra and the Pyrenees are less than 3 hours driving from Barcelona and it is a lovely place for a week-end. Pyrenees have many modern and high-quality ski resorts. If you like skiing this is the place for a enjoyable and well deserved week-end.

Pyrenees

Note: Barcelona is currently willing to hold the Olympic Winter Games of 2022.

Andorra is also known for its famous thermal baths (such as Caldea).

Ice Skating

In fact, it is available the whole year. Barcelona has 2 places to practise it:

Skating Barcelona at Roger de Flor 168 tel. 93-2452800, for more information click here

Camp Nou between the stadium and Palau Blaugrana tel. 93-4963630, for more information click here

Mercado de Santa Lucia

As a tradition, before winter arrives, the avenue of the Cathedral holds the Santa Lucia market. This is a special market where all kind of traditional objects related to Christmas time can be bought.

Rebajas

After the “Reyes Magos celebration”  (traditional and local celebration similar to Santa Claus), from the 7ht of January until the end of March, clothing stores make important discounts on their products.

Baseball World Cup Barcelona 2009

Barcelona has been the venue this weekend for the first round of the Baseball World Championship 2009. From Thursday to Saturday, inconditionals fans of this sport have had the chance to enjoy top level baseball games between Cuba, Puerto Rico, South Africa and the host nation Spain.

The most interesting and exciting game was the game that took place last day between Cuba and Spain. It was the longest game played this weekend (4 hours) and it nearly gave us a huge surprise as Spain was very close to beat the Cuban team. Cuba, the most favourite team to win this World Championship had very serious problems to beat a Spanish team who had chances to win until the very end and left very good sensations.

Baseball WorldChampionship in Barcelona

Fans filled the Carlos Perez de Rozas Stadium during the entire weekend and everybody had a really good time. The atmosphere was terrific.

We look forward to seeing the Championship coming back  to Barcelona soon.
