March 17th is St. Patrick’s day, Saint patron of Ireland. Parades are organized all over the world and although no parade is organized in Barcelona, nothing stops you from getting a real Irish experience at your local Irish Pub, and by Irish experience I mean a nice pint of Guinness. The only problem is that this year Paddy’s day is on a Tuesday, so unless you are on holidays or off the following day you may want to take it easy. * Thanks to Ernest for the picture.
After the winter break, the Champions League is finally back. Barcelona will play the second leg of first knockout round against Olympique Lyonnais at the Nou Camp on March 10th at 20:45h. Although Barcelona are favourites because of Henry’s vital away goal, their recent poor form makes them vulnerable so Lyon has definitely a change to kick the Catalan team out of the competition. French supporters will travel to Barcelona in big numbers to support their team so if you are in Barcelona for the game and have some free time to spend, why not doing some sightseeing or getting the Touristic Bus to get a taste of what Barcelona has to offer? Althoug the Nou Camp is a huge stadium with a capacity of 98,000, it is very difficult to get tickets for big games unless you are a Barcelona member. However it is not impossible so if you are in Barcelona for the game you may try calling the club or going to the stadium to see whether or not there are tickets available. You never now, you may be lucky. Barcelona marathon was supposed a big sports celebration however it ended up in tragedy after the death of Irish athlete Colin Dunne. Mr. Dunne collapsed after 35.4 km and although paramedics arrived immediately and tried to revive him for 55 minutes, all efforts where unsuccessful and was pronounced dead at Hospital Clinic. The City Council and the Organizers have expressed their commiserations Mr. Dunne’s family.
This is the view when the plane approaches Barcelona airport. If the weather is good, it is simply beautiful. |
